Solon Salutes: November 9, 2020

 SOLON SALUTES

Congratulations to the 2020 Division II State Champions!

This past weekend, our boys' soccer team beat Milton 2-1 to take the title of state champs. This is the first boys' championship since 1996, and it was well worth the wait! Congrats to each of the team members along with Coach Bagley for an awesome season and a fantastic finale!

MHS NEWS and EVENTS

  • Traveling over the break-Forms are Due to MHS this Thursday!  Whether you are traveling over the break or not, we are asking every family to return the form that was sent home last week with Superintendent Libby Bonesteel's letter. All forms are due to the main office by November 12th. MRPS will be tracking this information and reaching out to families who share they are going to be traveling or having visitors.
  • Picture Retake Day for both VTVLC and MHS students November 18th. Please see this flyer for additional details. Students can pick up forms outside the main office.
  • Quarter 2 Begins Today: Final grades for Quarter 1 will be posted this Friday, November 13th. All enrichment classes for Q2 will begin the week of November 16th.
  • Can you believe it? The holidays are approaching! In an effort to streamline Thanksgiving support in a safe and efficient way this year, we would like to share an incredible Thanksgiving resource with the MRPS community. National Life and other community partners are sponsoring the 48th Annual Free Thanksgiving MealMeals can be picked up or delivery can be arranged. See the attached flyer for more details and to make a reservation via phone or email. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED BY NOVEMBER 18TH.  Questions? Contact your school social worker, Ellia Cohen at ElliaCohen@mpsvt.org or 802.267.4041.
  • PowerSchool Access and Checking Grades: Have you wondered how to check your student's progress on PowerSchool? Well, this video is a short tutorial on how to access PowerSchool and check on grades. It's a quick one and well worth the watch!
  • Reporting Absences: If a student is absent for a class or for the day, parents/guardians should make sure to call Kim Kidney at MHS 225-8000 (or email kimk@mpsvt.org) to let her know the reason for the student's absence. Otherwise, MHS will mark it as unexcused until we are able to make contact with an adult who provides an excuse that is in accordance with the MRPS District Attendance Policy
  • MRPS/MHS Chromebooks Issued to Students:  We are excited to have had the opportunity to provide every student at MHS with a Chromebook. New this year, students will be transporting their Chromebook home and back to school.  We expect students to shut down and charge the device every night. It's critical that students remember to bring the device to school every day. Please help your child with these new routines. Please take a moment to read through the documents to the left and review the expectations with your students.
COVID INFORMATION
  • Traveling During Break: Please see Libby Bonesteel's letter to families regarding travel to other counties or visitors from other counties during our break. You should have also received a letter in the mail asking all families to return a slip back to school by November 12th.
  • FAQs for Families in Case of COVID Cases at School: Please see Libby Bonesteel's letter to families regarding information on what could happen should a COVID case arrive at your child's school.
  • Masks are a Must : Per Superintendent Bonesteel's letter at the start of the school year, masks are required by the State and AOE. Students must wear masks that cover their mouth and nose at all times while on school grounds. Please see our MHS poster that is posted around school.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Please visit our MRPS District Health and Wellness Page for all COVID-19 related documents and information.

MASK QUALITY:

Masks that are single layers are not recommended. Masks need to be 2 layers or more. The disposable masks, otherwise known as surgical masks, do offer a little more protection than cloth masks. Masking only works when we are all masking as a group.

POP UP TESTING:

Here is the link for pop up testing. This is for people who are not having symptoms. It looks like they want you to make an appointment instead of walking in, although there seems to be some walk in’s available in certain places.
