MHS NEWS and EVENTS
- Absences and Appointments: Please be reminded that all appointments should be scheduled outside of your child's school day. When a student misses a class, they are missing quite a bit of instruction within a quarter. Absences in our new schedule means a student is missing out on important information, instruction, in-class support. Although the importance of being in school is no different than past years, the time missed this year can have an impact on the student's ability to stay caught up on current instruction and learning.
- Wednesday Remote Days: Just a reminder that every student is expected to attend TA each Wednesday at 10:15. Students should reach out to their TA to find out how to access the Google Meet link for their designated TA if they don't know already. Students who attend CVCC are expected to be attending these meetings as well. Additionally, unless otherwise noted, each student will need to also attend their Green class at 11:00-12:45 and their White class at 1:15. We do consider these absences if students do not attend.
- How to interact with PowerSchool to see a student's progress: Please check out this short video on how to access a student's progress and performance in PowerSchool. We have found that our students and families don't always know how to navigate scores in PowerSchool, and this will hopefully provide a guide to accessing a students progress through formative assessments (practice that shows progress or a lack thereof) and summatives (which is the final score of the unit after the formative assessments have been given). You should see a student's progress in each of their courses on each Wednesday. If you are unable to access PowerSchool (Parent/Student Sign In Link) you can reach out to our PowerSchool technology expert for MHS, Aaron Kennison, at aaronkennison@mpsvt.org.
- Permits to Park on Campus: All students who drive to school must have an MHS Student Parking Permit. Download on your computer and return by email to Kim Kidney at kimk@mpsvt.org by September 28th.
- Change in Quarter Dates: Please see the 2020-2021 Master Schedule for a change in the quarter end/start dates. In order for us to ensure there is an even number of green/white days we needed to make some adjustments. We also are planning some school wide events (socially distanced of course) on January 27th and April 7th. More to come as those dates get closer.
- Picture Day is on October 7th: This is a remote Wednesday. We are working on the details to do this safely and efficiently. We will provide more details this week in a separate email. This will be for all MHS students, including those attending VTVLC and CVCC.
- No School on October 12th: (ALTERNATIVE SCHEDULE) There is no school on October 12th which means that week will be a no-remote learning week. We'll follow the first week's schedule of Tuesday and Friday as white days in person with Wednesday and Thursday green days in person.
CLASS OF 2021 NEWS
Attention Seniors:
This is a reminder about the third and final college admissions presentation with your school counselors. Here is the link to join the Google Meeting to learn more about the college application process: Wednesday September 23rd at 8am
We will be going over all the steps of applying to schools and answering any questions you may have. ALSO, please take one of the packets of directions and information related to applying to colleges that are available at the building entrances. They are in a box and clearly marked "For Seniors". Here are the same documents electronically as well.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Do you want to partner with MHS? We are continuing to seek safe and empowering partnerships between our school community and our greater Montpelier community this school year. We would very much value your consideration of partnering with our MHS students in whatever way may seem right for you. This survey was put out earlier this school year, and we wanted to loop back to it to see if additional community members wanted to consider a safe and empowering school/community partnership this year. The survey takes about 4 minutes to complete. Genuine appreciation to the many folks who have already completed the survey, and many thanks to those who will consider the opportunity to engage and empower students this year in any number of ways.
