SOLON SALUTES
A huge congratulations goes out to the boys' basketball team who made it to the State Championships this past Saturday. They played their hearts out and left it all on the floor. This picture epitomizes the experience for fans like me who got to see the beauty of community, grit, heart, support, and teamwork all in four quarters of an amazing basketball game. To the team and coaches, you had an awesome season, and we are all incredibly proud of your commitment and hard work. To our fans who came out to support the team and school, you brought a spirit to the Aud that rocked the house!

A presentation on sexting and social media will be offered for both MSMS and MHS students and parents on March 19th at 7 pm in the MHS auditorium. Officer Diane Mathews and Detective Matt Knisley from the MPD will be presenting. The presentation will focus on bringing an awareness to parents on which social media apps are most popular among teens, how they are being used and what parents should know. Additionally, there will be information provided on sexting and the ramifications associated with it. We hope to see many of you there.
SBAC Testing: All 9th graders will have the SBAC administered on 4/6, 4/7, 4/13, 4/14 from 8-10 am. Additionally, 11th graders will have the science SBAC administered on 4/13. We will have a 2-hour late start schedule for 4/6, 4/7, 4/13, 4/14. Assessment Update: The Vermont Agency of Education has developed a new statewide science assessment that is fully aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), the academic content standards that the state adopted in 2013. Blood Drive: Student Council will be tabling next week to sign students up for the upcoming Blood Drive on Monday, March 30th from 10:00-2:00pm in the MHS Auditorium. This is a vital time for donations, to be primarily used locally for those in need. Students can find information about how to donate here, and parents can download consent forms (for all students 16 and up) here.
COVID-19: Sent Monday, March 9th: We are sharing an update on COVID-19 (coronavirus) as VT has its first presumptive case of the virus in
Bennington County. In addition, two schools in Williston are closed today due to concerns connected to
COVID-19 and the need to do a deep clean. There is no indication from the Department of Health that
any school in MRPS is influenced by what is happening in Williston. Should anything change, the
administration will communicate the changes to the community.
The MRPS website now has a fully up-to-date page dedicated to information concerning COVID-19. We
will update this page as new information becomes available in addition to notifying the community of
those changes. Helpful links from the VT Department of Health as well as the Center for Disease Control
are available on this page. In addition, we have included a FAQ page that we will update as new questions
arise.
We can all support in preventing transmission of COVID-19. The following actions can support in
reducing the spread of COVID-19:
● Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not
available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
● Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
● Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
● Stay home when you are sick. Keep your child home if they are sick.
● Cover your cough or sneeze with your sleeve or a tissue. Throw the tissue in the trash.
● Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Please do not hesitate to contact your school administrator or nurse if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Libby Bonesteel
Superintendent of Schools MRPS

The Montpelier Fall Festival (https://www. montpelierfallfestival.com/) committee is searching for the right person to help support their fundraising efforts. All the proceeds from this event benefit all four parent groups formally and officially called MRPS Partners in Education. Visit our website at https://www.mrpspie.org/
Our goal this year (2020) is to raise $20,000 from corporate and local sponsors. These funds cover operational costs and low cost or free admission for families, children, and community members. We have spent the past four years building relationships with local funders that support this event.
