Solon Salutes: June 2, 2020

SOLON SALUTES

If you haven't had the pleasure of watching the staff's shout out to the students in a parody of Don't Stop Believing, check it out HERE. I've probably watched it 20 times and there have been some tears! 😦

UPCOMING COMMUNICATION/EVENTS:
  • MHS Town Hall for families on Thursday, June 4th:  On June 4th from 5:00-6:00 pm, MHS administration will host a virtual meeting for any parents/guardians who would like to collaborate and brainstorm ideas about next year. With the uncertainty as to what school will look like come fall, we would like to gather input  from our parents as we begin to plan. This will not be a Q and A session, but, instead, a time to brainstorm your perspective on what to think about as it relates to learning. Please see below for details.
  • Last day for all students is June 11th. Our teachers will be scheduling students to the week of June 8th-11th to close out the year as a class. Students will also be able to continue to turn in any missing work during this time.
  • All library books, classroom books, textbooks, calculators, and equipment such as cameras, microphones, or other classroom materials* may be dropped off next Thursday, June 11, 8:00 am - 2:00 pm, at the MHS auditorium/gym landing.
    • Tables will be set up on the auditorium/gym entrance landing, with bins for different items
    • Cars will drive into the turnaround. One person from the first car should bring the items to the bins. Practice social distancing and wear your mask
    • As the first car pulls out of the turnaround, the next one can pull up and follow the same steps and social distancing guidelines
    • If arriving on foot, please wait for a break in the car traffic before approaching the landing. As with those arriving by car, practice social distancing and wear your mask
    • Unless you are also involved in the MSMS graduation happening in the main parking lot, cars should turn left out of the turnaround to exit the school driveway.
    • Thank you, and please contact Sue Monmaney (susanm@mpsvt.org) if you have any questions.

  • A reminder that the MRPS Chromebook Collection Day will be Friday, June 12, at MHS and RVS (7 am to 2 pm at MHS, 11 am to 1 pm at RVS). Please only return student Chromebooks on June 12 and all other MHS materials on June 11.

  • Yearbook Distribution: A part of our 2019-2020 yearbook is delayed by the company. We are hoping we will be ready for yearbook pick up the week of June 15th. I will make sure to communicate once yearbooks are ready to go.

  • Schedules for 2020-2021: Because there is so much uncertainty around what school will look like in the fall, we are going to hold off on preparing and printing schedules until we have a solid plan moving forward. Usually students have these schedules in hand before they leave for the summer, but this may be 'false advertising' for the fall. I will keep in communication over the summer regarding schedules and any changes, as will our Superintendent.

  • Locker Clean Out: Please see the schedule below for picking up belongings from MHS lockers (school and gym):
    • Tuesday, June 2nd  Noon - 4 p.m. Upstairs lockers only and gym lockers
    • Thursday, June 4th  Noon - 4 p.m. Downstairs lockers only and gym lockers
    • Friday, June 5th 2:00-5:00 pm  Final pick-up day, all lockers included
  • School locker contents will be in clear plastic bags labeled with locker number on tables outside. There will be a list of locker numbers in case you forget.
  • Gym locker content will be available all three days. Because gym lockers are not assigned, we will label them but you will need to double check contents before you take the bag. Gym locker bags will be placed on a separate table.
  • Practice social distancing and wear your mask.
Please contact Jen Wall-Howard at jen@mpsvt.org if you have questions.

SENIOR NEWS:

WCAX on June 4th at 6 pm:  WCAX will be honoring our seniors by listing their names. Five seniors will also give a short one-minute speech to introduce the Class of 2020. Check WCAX out this Thursday in the last 15 minutes of programming. There will be other schools who are honored during this time, so don't think you got the day wrong.

Walk-the-Stage Sign Up: We will open the schedule at 8:00 am this Thursday, May 28th, and will close at the end of the TODAY Tuesday, June 2nd. Because we needed to reduce the days for creating the video prior to live broadcast on June 12th, we will be hosting students from 12:00-6 pm June 8th, 9th, 10th in 10-minute increments. Please communicate between student/parent for one sign up only. Here is the link for scheduling that will open on Thursday. If you need help, please reach out to Kim Kidney at kimk@mpsvt.org. More details on social distancing guidelines will follow at a later date.

Cap/Gown Pick Up will take place on Saturday, June 6th from noon-3 pm in the MHS parking lot. Seniors will have some 'special guests' waiting for them upon arrival!

Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony: Watch MHS Graduation on Friday, June 12th starting at 6pm on our MHS website or on the District @MRPSVT Facebook Page. Can't watch on 6/12? No problem! The video will remain posted for your viewing convenience at a later date!
