- Friday, October 11 there is NO SCHOOL due to Teacher Inservice and NO SCHOOL on October 14th due to Indigenous Peoples Day
- On October 17th, MHS will celebrate is annual event The Fall Harvest Celebration (FHC) which was started in 2009. It is an experiential learning celebration of our efforts to create a more sustainable community. The day features either workshops or service related to a theme, followed by an all-school, local, slow meal. All ingredients are produced at MHS or are sourced from local farms. The feast is accompanied by student and faculty performances and presentations. Put simply, it is the best day of the year.
GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT
- For SENIORS: The VSAC Financial Aid Forms Night is a hands-on workshop to help parents of seniors and seniors complete the 2019-2020 Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA). ANY student wanting consideration for federal or college based grants or scholarships must complete the FAFSA. No student is considered for college based scholarships unless they have also completed the FAFSA. Help is available in the workshop to complete the FAFSA and the Vermont Grant application. Only minimal support is available for completing the CSS Profile. This workshop is only for parents of seniors and students graduating from high school in 2020. PLEASE go to www.studentaid.gov/fsaid and create a “Federal Student Aid ID” before coming in. The student and one parent MUST have create their own separate “FSA ID”. Students must also have a “MyVSAC” account - go here to develop that account: https://secureacctaccess.vsac.
org/myvsac/. Only the student needs this account. In order to complete the financial aid applications this evening the following forms are necessary:
- 2018 Federal income taxes with all schedules for both student and parents
- Documents that list taxed and untaxed income for 2018 including SS and/or disability benefits
- Monthly Reach UP family Assistance and food stamps/Vermont 3 Squares
- Current balance of checking and savings for both student and parents
- Child support paid and/or received in 2018
- Home value and debt (if applicable)
- Farm value and debt (if applicable)
- Business value and debt (if applicable)
- Investment value and debt (if applicable)
- Come to the "How to Apply for College" session and "Managing College Costs" session all in one place on October 16, 2019 at U32 at 5:30pm-6:30pm Lissa Knauss and Geoff Sather, MHS School Counselors, will host a Q and A session for parents to learn about the college application process. At 6:30pm-7:30pm Clark Amadon from VSAC will present “Managing College Costs." The presentation is VSAC’s new way of looking at college costs and affordability. The presentation starts with the premise that it is best to move the discussion of college costs to the beginning of the college search process. Strategies are presented for how to lower college costs, increase financial aid and how to pay for college. The financial aid application forms are also discussed along with how financial is determined and the timeline for applying for aid”.
- The PSAT will be offered at Montpelier High School on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 7:45 AM. The test is designed for juniors and for sophomores who have completed Geometry. There is no cost for juniors. The fee for sophomores is $22.00 - checks should be made payable to Montpelier High School. Please stop by guidance to register and pick up a Student Guide.
- GAP YEAR INFO NIGHT, Nov. 5 at 6 pm at MHS: Are you thinking about taking a gap year after high school? Montpelier High School is hosting an informational presentation with gap year expert Julia Rogers on Tuesday, November 5th from 6-7 pm. The presentation will cover the benefits, challenges and opportunities surrounding the gap year option. Julia will also cover the variety of programs available, how to plan for college deferment, goal-setting and how to keep it within your family's budget. Employment Opportunity: The Montpelier Roxbury Public Schools Food Service Department is looking for help in our school cafeterias. School food is a fun, rewarding job with hours that are perfect for folks with kids in school. We are seeking Food Service Assistants and Food Service Substitutes for positions in all of our schools. Prior food service experience is great but not necessary, we are willing to train the right candidate. Calling all students! The Montpelier Farmers Market is looking for volunteers at our Fall Festival on October 12th. Do you enjoy the hustle and bustle of the farmers market? Come be a part of the fun! We need face painters, ticket takers and apple pie servers...come for a few hours or stay all morning!
