2018-19: Week 40

A Solon Salute to art teacher Liz Swindell and all of the MHS Art Students who held their art show on 5/22. Special thanks to all of the MHS musicians who played, and to the volunteers who helped with transportation and setup. And another special thanks to the VT College of Fine Arts for the use of the beautiful gallery space. Well done everyone! A Solon Salute to Robbie Gibson, Kat Pringles, Owen Carswell-Damiano, Des Roberts and Bob Powell who spent time putting flags by gravestones in preparation for Memorial Day at the Green Mountain Cemetery in Montpelier.

A Solon Salute to all of the MHS Students who successfully led their student conferences on May 23rd. There were so many great moments of reflection, insight, and celebration throughout the day. Thank you and thank you to all of the guests who were able to join us!

A Solon Salute to JV and Varsity Girls Ultimate Frisbee Teams.
  • Last weekend they went to the Pioneer Valley Invitational tournament in Northampton, Massachusetts.  Saturday the Varsity Girls saw some amazing competition! We were in one of the "Power Pools," the top eight teams (out of 28) entering the tournament placed into two pools of four to play each other. We lost to Ingraham from Seattle, WA, 7-4 and Wicked from Ottawa, Canada,10-8. They were also the two teams that ended up in the finals. We were the team with the closest loss to Ingraham all weekend! We then beat Wilson from DC 9-7. Then we played a crossover game against Burlington and won 10-6. On Sunday were in the bracket for first place. Our first game we lost to Northampton 9-7, then lost to Falmouth 10-8, then beat Montreal 8-4. We finished the weekend in 7th place! We learned so much, grew as a team, and had a ton of fun. It was definitely a successful weekend full of great ultimate and fun community. (From Coach Nolan Benoit).

A Solon Salute and thank you to the the following businesses for donating to our Away for the Day raffle and supporting our efforts to decrease digital distraction! The generous prizes were a helpful incentive to the students to put away their phones for the school day and be more engaged with the people and events around them. Thank you to: Chill, Capitol Grounds, Subway, Capitol Theater, Delish, Positive Pie and Mad Taco.

A Solon Salute to the MHS Student Council Members who have planned and decorated for an MHS Spirit Week next week. The place looks great!

A Solon Salute to Grace Valentine for her Independent Study Project on wild and native pollinators, which led to the creation of three mason bee houses for the MHS campus. And a Solon Salute to CBL student Liam Casey, who designed and built the bee houses with the help of Community Partner Eyrich Stauffer of Stauffer Woodworking. We salute you all!

A Solon Salute to Cypress Levitt who was nominated for Burlington Free Press Athlete of the Week for her play last week for U-32 lax. Congrats Cypress!
