2018-19: Week 11

A Solon Salute to some of our Flexible Pathways Dual Enrollment college course students who recently met with CCV advisor, MK Dreher for a mid-semester check in: Sophia Robins, Evie Caserta, Adam Blair, Faith Bolques, Judith Witke Mele, Colin Desch, Ruby Jennings, Siiri Pombar, Emma Harter, Juna Nagle. And thanks to Flexible Pathways advisor, Stephanie DiLena, for supporting these students who are getting a jump of their college course experiences.

A congratulatory Solon Salute to CBL faculty advisor, Sarah Loveless, for completing her Work Based Learning (WBL) endorsement through the Vermont Agency of Education. Sarah is one of only a handful WBL licensed educators in the state and her professional learning and credentials in this evolving field of Flexible Pathways will further deepen the experiences that students are having in their respective Flexible Pathway learning journeys. Way to go, Sarah!

A Solon Salute to the MHS Boosters and all of the MRPS Parent Groups who helped to raise nearly $10,000 during this year's Fall Festival. Special salute to 9th grader Taylor Nunnelley for being the top MHS student fundraiser. Thank you also to Adrienne Gil for her work in leading the project. The money supports the Parents Groups at each of the schools. Each of those groups play a critical role in supporting extra curricular programs and events that enhance the learning of our students. Thank you!
Did you know that MHS is offering an eight week after-school series called Cooking As Medicine? There is still time for students to sign-up. Sign up here

A Solon Salute to the Capitol Showplace for helping to arrange a showing of The Hate U Give for our Racial Justice Alliance. Thank you!

A Solon Salute to Allie Sullivan who teamed up with Katy Chabot (Science Teacher) and Lissa Knauss (MHS Wellness Initiative) to present in classes on 10-31-18.
  • Allie is a 3rd year dual doctorate candidate in Clinical Psychology and Developmental Psychology at UVM. Her research area is in the intersection of adversity and biology and more specifically how stress affects biological symptoms. She presented on stress, its effects on the body, and how research psychologists test and measure stress levels for their research. She concluded with teaching about scientifically supported ways to reduce stress and the importance of practicing these skills regularly, when not under stress, in order to be able to use them effectively in times of stress. The interactive portion of the presentation was a stress evoking paradigm where the students collected data after stressing their partner out. (counting backwards by 7s from a large number while being told to hurry up :)
