2016-17: Week 4

Wow, what a full week!

A Solon Salute to all of the fans and athletes that participated in Friday and Saturday's Homecoming events. Thank you to the Field Hockey Team, Soccer Teams, and the Cross Country teams for representing us so well this weekend.

A Solon Salute to Theresa Murray-Clasen and the boosters for their work in providing popcorn and having the Solon-Wear available on Open House night. Thank you also for having the snack shack open and thriving on Friday night and all day on Saturday. Your efforts really add to our atmosphere and school community, we salute you all!

A Solon Salute to Mr. Chater for his help in leading the bonfire event on Friday. Mr. Chater also shared the following salute for other key contributors: "First and foremost, Chuck Eldred was essential to accruing and then stacking the perfect tower of pallets. The great live music by Machlan Pettersen, Ericson Scott and Chase Ruel would not have been possible without the help of Sophie Currier. The Boosters helped provide snacks to make the night complete. And finally the relentless Joe Carroll as stellar chaperone helped make the night possible. Thank you all for your efforts." A Solon Salute to Barb Austin-Hutchins, Emma Murray Clasen, Emily Corbett Valade, Miles Rapaport and Evan Lewis. With help from others including, but probably not limited to Levi Beavin, Jackson Markow, and Liam Frey, they pulled off a very successful homecoming dance. The money raised will go directly to the 2017 Project Grad event. Evan helped to save the day by agreeing to DJ at last the minute. He worked really hard on the playlist and did a great job! Jackson also provided some heroics on the sound board, and I'm not sure we would have had a dance at all this year without the steady hard work and leadership of seniors Emma Murray Clasen, Emily Corbett Valade, and Miles Rapaport. We salute you!

A Solon Salute to Mr. Geoff Sather for his work to organize the club fair, and to all of the student leaders who stood up in front of the school to invite their classmates to join one of the many clubs at MHS.

A Solon Salute to everyone who was able to attend our Open House last Thursday night. In case you were not able to attend but are interested in hearing/seeing the introductory presentation, here are a couple of useful links: Open House Presentation 2016 and power-school explanation. The Open House presentation features a short explanation of the how and why regarding our shift to a proficiency based system.

A Solon Salute to Mr. Tillotson and Scholar's Bowl Team: "We had a total of 12 teams from eight schools compete and Essex came away with the title, posting a 9-1 record and edging runner-up Burlington 365-315 in the decisive match. South Burlington placed third while Montpelier [Rachel Sucher, Matt Koucky, Graham Janson, and Jackson Markow] was fourth overall and the top small school in a strong showing that included handing Essex its only loss."

A Solon Salute to Bobby Powell and former MHS Principal Adam Bunting who are in this recently completed Unified Sports Video. We are looking forward to the Unified Sports season!
