Our first full week back at school did not disappoint! Our soccer teams, field hockey team, and cross-country teams were all in action despite the heat. Both the boys' varsity and girls' varsity soccer teams won their home openers, and the cross country team finished 1st in division 2 at the Essex Invitational. On Wednesday MHS welcomed a visit from the C-SPAN school outreach bus, as well as a visit from author/artist Ed L. Rubin.

The following slideshow features photos from Ed Rubin's visit and presentation to our students. Ed is the author and photographer of "Vermont: An Outsider's Inside View." He spoke of his path to creating this amazing book. He also shared a slideshow of some of the book's photos, including his reasoning for how the photos were chosen, and he took the time to answer many questions. The picture album below features the "courtroom" like sketches from some of the Art II students who attended the talk from Mr. Rubin. We thank our own Pinky Clark, Montpelier's unofficial mayor, for his work in bringing Mr. Rubin to MHS.  To both Pinky and Mr. Rubin, we salute you!

In the middle of the week, Montpelier high school participated in C-SPAN's tour to visit schools around the country. C-SPAN brought its large multimedia bus for students to view. During an interview portion of the morning, Montpelier was very well represented by teachers: Don Taylor, Amy Kimball, Sarah Loveless, Matt McLane, and Tom Sabo. The educators were accompanied by selected students who spoke in regards to their personalized learning plans, their work within the Community Based Learning (CBL), as well as their work with MHS's sustainability program. Everyone did a fantastic job on short notice! The clips from the interviews will be made available in partnership with local television network, ORCA, within the next month or so. A special thanks to city council members Justin Turcotte and Dona Bate who attended the event as well. To all those who involved, we salute you!
