2018-19: Week 25

A Solon Salute to all of the MHS Musicians who earned All-State recognition for their outstanding skills: Eleanor Braun, Katie Desch, Edie Donofrio, Mei Dwyer-Frattalone, Erin Kelly, Hope Petraro, Evan Rohan, Neil Rohan, and Charlie Watson. The All-State Festival will be hosted by U-32 and MHS this May. We need host families! Please see below for the full announcement of how you can help. Grace Carlomagno (not pictured), Warren Cossett, Juna Nagle, Charlie Watson, and Evan Rohan also participated in Winooski Valley Jazz this past week as well. Great work!

A Solon Salute to visiting artist Gowri Savoor who joined our Art II class for the second day of her residency teaching. She taught our students how to make collaborative paper lanterns. The finished products will be the largest sculptures to parade in the Montpelier festival of lights Thursday February 21st.

A Solon Salute to the Boys' Basketball Team who recently one their matchup against Milton on a last second shot by Ben Gambill! Check out the game winner in this video:

A Solon Salute to 12th grader Sanela Bikic who recently was selected as a presidential scholar for her outstanding work in the Medical Professions program at CVCC. Congratulations Sanela!

A Solon Salute to 10th grader Luke Brassard. Luke recently earned his Star Rank. Star comes after First Class and precedes Life and Eagle. The rank is attained by holding a position of responsibility in the Troop, staying involved, earning merit badges, completing a community service project, and teaching younger scouts. Congratulations Luke!

A Solon Salute to 9th grader Jules Caserta for the recent feature in The Bridge for Jules' regular ORCA TV show, "All Things LGBTQ". Well done Jules!

A Solon Salute to the staff, Ms. Butterfield, Ms. Abrams, Ms. Chabot, Mr. Carroll, and Mr. Sabo, and 12th grader Meredith Stetter who are in this fifth MIT MOOC video that features MHS. The MOOC is being accessed by people from around the world this winter. The video provides a nice overview of some of the core pieces of our proficiency based system.

  • Host Families Needed for All-State Musical Festival
U-32 and MHS are teaming up to host the 92nd All State Music Festival this year. It's a pretty big honor, but a large undertaking for our small community! We need to find 380 beds in the greater Montpelier area for Vermont High School musicians outside of a 30 mile radius from U-32. It's quite a daunting task, so any help would be greatly appreciated. The festival is May 9-11th, 2019. You can help by sharing this with the community and hosting if you're able! Host families do not need to have kids at U-32 or MHS...empty nesters, retired folks, music lovers, etc. All are welcome to apply. Information and requirements are as follows:

    • Dates: May 9-11
    • Location: U-32
    • Provide: place to sleep (bed, sofa-bed, air mattress, camping pads etc), breakfast, a few snacks for the day and transportation to and from school. Lunch and dinner provided by U-32
    • Complete: Background Check
    • Questions? Contact Choir Teacher, Molly Clark mollyclark@mpsvt.org
