2018-19: Week 3

Important Reminders:

  • This Wednesday (9/12) we will have our first of our four "LATE START" days. The four LATE START days will allow for additional professional learning for the staff. The 4 dates are 9/12/18, 12/12/18, 2/13/19, 3/13/19. School will begin at 10am and will follow our normal delay schedule

  • Please join us for our annual Open House this Thursday evening (9/13). We will begin at 6:30pm in the auditorium. Open House will allow families to visit classrooms, follow student schedules and enjoy snacks and music together.

A Solon Salute to all of the MHS students and staff for doing an excellent job in completing our first local universal assessments in literacy and math. Nearly all MHS students completed these 20 minute assessments last Thursday and Friday during Solon Block. The STAR assessment provides our faculty with baseline levels of literacy and math skills for all students. This gives us the chance to view how we all are doing in these areas and the opportunity to support students who may need additional support. STAR also provides an additional data point to pair with SBAC assessments. The scores are not reported out anywhere as they are only for internal use. Individual scores can be shared with students and families upon request.

A Solon Salute to Sophia Currier and Daniel Jestes for taking their free block to help process and a massive amount of zucchini and yellow squash thus helping reduce our waste and put away food that we hope to use later in the year. (From Mr. Bromley)

A Solon Salute to Marshall Donahue, Isaak Donahue, Nathan LaRosa, and Taylor Nunnelley who are playing football with U-32 this year. Nathan is the starting quarterback. Check out this video clip (at 3:58) from last week to see these Solons in the grid-iron action.

U-32 Highlights start at 3:58 in this video

A Solon Salute also to our Golf, Field Hockey, Soccer, and Cross Country teams who were all in action this past week. To check out all of the latest scores and announcements you can follow our Athletic Director, Matt Link, @MHS_Solons Here are a couple of samples of the posts by Matt and the coaches:

The Fall Harvest Celebration will be on Thursday 10/18/18. Please consider performing. This could be a song, a dance, a poem, a story or some other skill you would like to share. You could perform alone, with a friend, or with a group of friends. "Auditions" are 1 month away. We just wanted to give you time to think (and practice!) ; )

If you have any questions or want to bounce an idea, please see Mr. Sabo.

Women Can Do Conference

  • Women Can Do is a one-day career immersion experience for 9-12th grade female and female-identifying students from across Vermont. It features dozens of hands-on workshops and action stations highlighting careers in the skilled trades and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields.
