2017-18: Week 40

A Solon Salute to Girls' Ultimate Team. They won their weekend matches to advance to the state championship. The also were chosen as for the spirit award for the season in the state. This award recognizes the team with the best sportsmanship, attitude, and fairness during the whole season in a sport that is self-refereed. Congrats girls! Mae Browning and Casarah Acosta were chosen for first-team all state. The JV team (pictured below) won their division as well. The team will play against Lyndon Institute at People's Academy at 5pm on Tuesday. The girls are going for back-to-back state championships!

A Solon Salute to the Boys' Tennis Team who advanced to the semifinals. They will take on Essex on Tuesday in Essex at 3pm. Good luck boys!

A Solon Salute to the MHS Track & Field Team. The team finished their season over the weekend at the D2 VT State Championship meet. Congrats on a great season. Results.

A Solon Salute to the MHS Girls' Tennis Team on another great season. The girls' finished up their season last week. Thank you for representing MHS so well and special thanks to all of the seniors.

A Solon Salute to the MHS Baseball Team. They came on strong at the end of the season and with most returning next year, the future looks bright. Nick Beavin pitched a complete game at home last week to lead the Solons to victory. The team also recently helped at the Rec. field to get the old tarp off the field and the new tarp on the roller. The task took hours and lots of team work. Thank you! And thank you to seniors Curtis Leno and Clayton Winters for their years of dedication to the team.

A Solon Salute to the Boys' Ultimate Teams. Two weekends ago the Varsity boys team went to the Pioneer Valley Invitational in Northampton MA, initially ranked tenth out of forty-four boys teams. By the end of the second day they placed 6th. On an even better note, the varsity boys got the second highest spirit ranking out of all the A-division boys teams. This score is given to the team by the opponents during the tournament, based on knowledge of the rules, how self-controlled, fair-minded, and how much many fouls. The Boys B team, had a great time playing at the Kingdom Ultimate Tournament in Lyndon, VT. The B Team was moved up to a higher division, and was able to beat Sharon Academy's varsity team, and had two very respectable losses to Brattleboro Varsity, and Lyndon JV. The boys' finished their season over this past weekend in Milton. Varsity tied for 3rd, and JV took 3rd as well. Kaleth Torrens-Martin, Hayden Elms, and Anders Shenholm were selected to 1st team all-state. Congrats on another great year of ultimate!

A Solon Salute to Cypress Levitt who was chosen to play in the Girls' Lacrosse Rising Star game this year at Middlebury. Congratulations Cypress! 

A Solon Salute to the MHS Unified Bocce Team who had their final match of the season last week. A well played match and good time had by all despite the heat and humidity.

Superintendent Finalists June 4th:

• At this time the superintendent search committee has narrowed the field down to two finalists. Click here to read more about the finalists and to see more details of how you can meet them on Monday, June 4th.

Awards Assembly June 8th:

• The class of 2018 senior breakfast will take place on Friday, June 8th. MHS will also have an awards' assembly and a picnic lunch. Click here to view the special schedule--including an early release.  

Livelihood Art/Music Festival June 9th:

• Club Action is putting on the Livelihood Art/Music Festival on June 9th from 5:30-9:30. Proceeds from the event are being split between two organizations: Spectrum Vermont and the Ibutwa Initiative. Spectrum Vermont supports multiple programs including Riverstone Counseling, Drop-in Center, Supportive Housing, Health Center, Skills Programs, Mentoring, Multicultural Youth Programs, and Detail Works. The Ibutwa Initiative works to bring healthcare and education to the women and children of DR Congo. The festival will include music, performances, food, and drink. Ticket prices are as follows:
  

$10 for students
$15 for adults
$25 for a family (up to 5 people)

 Owl Sculpture Go-Fund-Me:

• Art teacher Barb Austin-Hutchins is collaborating with MHS alumni Sean Williams to raise money for a 10 foot tall original granite sculpture to be placed in the MHS roundabout. For more details on the project click: "Life is short, art is long."
