2017-18: Week 3

A Solon Salute to Club Action and the Diversity Club for helping to host The Race Against Racism. The Race was a big success with a great sized crowd. A special salute to tenth grader Hope Petraro and Ms. McLane for their incredible leadership on this event!
Many students and faculty volunteered their time to make the event happen!

A great crowd ran the race. Thanks to Tim Noonan for setting the course!

Mr. Sabo and Mr. Bromley had the new pizza kiln going. All of the veggies were from the MHS garden too!
A Solon Salute to the Montpellier HSC (professional soccer team) in France. This team recently had their their city's name, "Montpellier", misspelled on their new jerseys. The wrong spelling "Montpelier" was the right spelling for us. Out of nowhere they announced they would be sending all of the misspelled versions to Montpelier Vermont and to our High School. Once we find out just how many will arrive, members of the high school administration will meet with leaders in the city and figure how to best utilize the jerseys, and thank the good people of Montpellier. The story was picked up by the Sports Illustrated, ESPN, and more. Needless to say, Montpellier HSC has some new fans!

A Solon Salute to Liam Frey and Rachel Sucher for reading their poems at Sundog Poetry Center's annual Share Your Heart, Share the World poetry conference. Liam and Rachel and Stella Kahn worked with Vermont poets and Virginia's poet laureate Tim Seibles on Thursday up at Rock Point School. It was a great day of poetry!

A Solon Salute to the MHS Cross Country Team for their strong finish during the extra warm U-32 invitational over the weekend. (Thanks to Mr. Gallagher for the photos). Click here for the race results.

Montpelier High School is now heading into the third full week of utilizing Solon Block. So far so good! (Explanation and Expectations) Solon Block

A Solon Salute to Myles Chater and Erin Sullivan (who represented Irish Humanities) and to Haleigh Doucette, for helping the Boosters' Club clean the outdoor and indoor concession stands. Thanks, also, to Tom Allen for being so easy to work with and for providing us with the cleaning supplies we needed. You're the best! (From the MHS Boosters' Club)

A Solon Salute to the 13 parents, 10 students (from Masque, Diversity and Debate clubs,) and one intrepid teacher, Jerry Tillotson, who joined us for a marathon envelope stuffing party (5-10 p.m.!) Their hard work made it possible for us to get our annual fundraising appeal (formerly the "phone-a-thon") out the door and into a mailbox near you. We would also like to thank Subway for donating three platters of sandwiches to feed our hungry workers. Thanks, especially, to Carolyn Desch and Elise Annes for their many hours of work preparing the letters and organizing the mailing and to Seth Mitchell for his help with design. (From the MHS Boosters' Club).
