2016-17: Week 16

A Solon Salute to all of our MHS students in this year's musical. If you didn't get a chance to see the musical, How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying it was very well done and fun for all. It is incredible how hard these young people work to pull off such a professional product. The cast was made up of, Adam Isaacs-Falbel, Evan Lewis, Rachael Cummings, Helen Cerutti, Avi Isaacs-Corcoran, Matt Koucky, Liam Mears, Grace Carlomango, Angus Fraser, Hope Petraro, Nathan DeGroot, Riley Craig, Warren Cossett, Evie Caserta, Estella Best, Apollonia Tabacco, Olivia Hennessey, Nadia Scoppettone, Christie Cecere, Juna Nagle, Faith Bolques, and Maddie Friend. This year's crew, light, sound, dance leaders, costumes, marketing and more were made up of Siiri Pombar, Mandinso Abu Aziz, Juna Nagle, Adam Blair, Jackson Markow, Helen Sawyer, Emma Harter, Nadia Scoppetone, Aziana Holder, Lily Fournier, Elizabeth Cossett, and January Simpson. Adam Isaacs-Falbel performed, narrated, and play cello in the orchestra. Fantastic job everyone

A Solon Salute to Kianna Bromley for an excellent job directing her first performance at Montpelier High School. The show was wonderful, thank you Kianna! And a Salute to musical director Cailin O'Hara, choreographer Amia Cervantes & orchestra conductor Hilary Goldblatt. The kids looked and sounded great! And a thank you and salute to Sam Bromley for all of his help with the set and beyond. 


A Solon Salute to Unified Sports Bowlin' Solons! In some wildly competitive (not really!....but kind of) MHS adult/student match-ups at Twin City Lanes this past week, the MHS Unified Bowlin' Solons team completed their 2016 season in super fun fashion. Good times!! Thanks to all who enjoyed rollin' together and congratulations to the 2016 MHS Unified Bowling team for a great season. (From Mr. McLane)

A Solon Salute to the Clean Team for their extra work to keep things safe and dry in the winter time. Thanks team, we salute you!

A Solon Salute to Sue Monmaney for her leadership on our Postcard Pick-me-up project this week. Sue writes, "I am continually inspired by the kindness and generosity of the MHS community. A salute our students and staff who created over 150 postcards this week to send to Postcard Pick-me-up. The postcards will be distributed by nursing students to individuals who might benefit from a postcard." 

A Solon Salute and Congratulations to Eleanor Braun, Grace Carlomagno, Colin Desch, Angus Fraser, Matt Koucky, Liam Mears, and Ada Rohan on their acceptance to the 2017 New England Music Festival! -the Music Dept.
 

A Solon Salute to parent Beth Bingham, volunteer Jeff Betzler, and students Emma Murray-Clasen, Emily Corbett-Valade, and Cricket Basa for their leadership in coordinating our Text Less Live More week. And thank you to JoyRyde founder, Terry Goguen for his help in signing MHS as a team with JoyRyde (safe driving app). MHS will take part in a high school challenge. The participating VT high school that drives the most miles safely this year will have $500 donated to the charity of their choice. The MHS Principal Advisory Team will be selecting the charity that MHS will be driving safely for and we will make that announcement in the next Salutes.

A Solon Salute to Ron Allen for helping to bring the Youth Safety Council's Mobile Driving Simulator to MHS on Wednesday as a part of the TLLM week. We missed getting a picture, but here is an article that has a picture of the simulator from earlier this year. About 25 MHS students had the chance to try the simulator throughout the day.

A Solon Salute to the student developed and run school online newspaper, The Solon Spectrum. The Spectrum posted its first issue of the year this week. Take a minute to see all their work!

Announcements:
  • The MHS student council is sponsoring a food drive. The student council is collecting non-perishable food from TAs through the next couple of weeks. Thank you!
  • The MHS Action and Interact Clubs are sponsoring the Shoebox drive. Student Matt Koucky writes:
The Central Vermont Council on Aging asks willing community volunteers to please join in the effort by participating in a “shoebox” drive. For this drive, the council asks that volunteers fill shoeboxes with small gift items such as:
  • Stationery
  • Winter Clothing
  • Gift Cards
  • Kitchen Supplies (pot holders, kitchen towels, mugs)
  • Nonperishable Food Items
  • Soaps, lotions, and grooming items
Club Action and the MHS Interact Club are working in partnership with the CVCA to organize a shoebox drive at our school. Starting on Wednesday, December 7, and ending on Tuesday, December 20, we ask that you lend a hand.
  • The Winter Sports season is underway. Come out and cheer on our Nordic Team, Basketball Teams, Hockey Teams, Unified Bowling, Indoor Track, and the Gymnastics club team. Click here to view the sports calendar.
